History

The Department of English offers UG and PG programmes in English. B.A was introduced in the year 2010 and M.A.in 2015. With well-experienced faculty, the Department functions with 15 staff members. The Department seeks to provide hands-on learning to its students at the Foundation Level, teaching General English and Soft Skills. It also offers a Non-major Elective Journalism for other students.

The Department seeks to provide hands-on learning to its students at the Foundation Level, teaching General English and Soft Skills. It also offers a Non-major Elective Journalism for other students.

This stream is popular owing to its multidisciplinary approach. Apart from teaching, other cross stream careers like Copy Editing, Technical Writing, Proof Reading, Translating, Content Writing, Publishing, and Editing are available in ample scope.

In order to hone student skills, the Department conducts many workshops, seminars on various facets of acquiring English for employability. Other activities like problem-solving exercises, project work and skills workshops are conducted to help comprehend the myriad exposures that a student can experience while pursuing his/her education in English. Alternative teaching methods, flipped teaching, blended learning are some parallel modes of teaching apart from traditional concepts.

  • To Introduce classic and modern literary texts in English and translation.
  • To expound the effervescence of literature in cosmopolitan thinking.
  • To help comprehend critical thinking skills.

Mission

  • Introducing literary texts in English and in translation.
  • Imparting adequate knowledge of different genres and critical tools.
  • Discussing literary texts in their social, political, historical and cultural contexts.
  • Instilling an interdisciplinary approach among the learners.
  • Extending the knowledge of literary texts to performance and composition.
  • Familiarizing learners with recent trends in criticism and research methods and methodologies.
